Photocatalytic degradation of ethylene by mesoporous nano silica loaded chlorin e6

Abstract Green foods are usually harvested and stored before ripening, but excessive ethylene generated during storage can lead to the loss of vegetables fruits. Photocatalytic oxidation provides a promising method remove extend shelf life green foods. In this study, mesoporous nanosilica-loaded Ce6 composite nanomaterial (Ce6@SiO 2 ) was designed synthesized adsorb into its pores then degrade it under visible light illumination. The photosensitizer in mesopore produced large amounts reactive oxygen species that degraded ethylene. specific surface area greatly increased by coating material on sodium alginate (SA) hydrogel membrane. This improved degradation efficiency facilitated adsorption fruit storage. removal capacity studied measuring concentration increases humidity Tedlar gas bags. Practical applications were tested observing color changes decay tomatoes with without SA/Ce6@SiO . results showed system may be used practical commercial preservation systems.
